R2: Five clubs double up in Round Two

Group A: Duffield, Oxford and Nottingham keep the wins coming …

The second round of PSL action saw Nottingham, Duffield and Oxford, all winners in the opening round, take to the road against three home teams looking for their first win – and all three came away with the spoils

Jenny Duncalf put Chapel A ahead with a 3-1 win over training partner Lisa Aitken, but Ollie Holland levelled for Nottingham and Lewis Walters put the visitors ahead. Home skipper Simon Parke found himself embroiled in some marathon rallies with Mark Fuller, eventually winning 3-2 in 76 minutes to take the match into a decider. Well after all the other matches had finished, Eddie Charlton wrapped up a second successive win for Nottingham (2-3, 8-17).

At PontefractDuffield quickly went 2-0 up with wins from Laura Massaro and Chris Fuller, a lead which was just as quickly doubled by Aqeel Rehman and Andy Whipp, and despite a last-ditch effort by Harinder Pal Sandhu, Joel Hinds made it a clean sweep for the visitors (0-5, 2-20).

Birmingham hosted Oxford, who took the early lead through Madeline Perry and Richard Birks, but wins for Chris’ Tasker and Ryder took it to a decider. Ben Coleman was the hero of the hour, his 3-2 win over Nathan Lake giving Oxford a precious away win (2-3, 9-15).

Group B: Chichester & Exeter shine on …

In group B it was Exeter Diamonds who notched up the first win of the night – and their second in a row – going 3-0 up over St George’s with wins from Natalie Grinham, Mike Harris and Tim Vail to leave the two-time finalists without a win and ultimately going home on the back of a heavy defeat (5-0, 20-2)

Reigning champions Surrey were at home to Chichester, and with both teams unbeaten something had to give. Alison Waters and Richie Fallows put the home side 2-0 up, but Anthony Graham and then Alex Gough with a 3-2 win over Steve London, set up the decider in which Jon Kemp eased past Davide Bianchettin to give Chichester the spoils (2-3, 9-14)

Another decider was needed at Winchester, where the home team and visitors Bristol were both looking for a first win. Home number one Stacy Ross gave Winchester the win with a 3-1 victory over Arthur Gaskin (3-2, 16-9).
